Sagar"Saggar pieces" area typically unfired ceramic ware that is placed in saggars (see below) and then bisque fired, before being glazed and again placed in saggars prior to being glost fired (see below). Ware may then be decorated, and placed on refractory bats and fired again such as in a muffle kiln.
Definitions: "Saggars" - A type of kiln furniture, is a ceramic boxline container used in firing of pottery to enclose and protect ware being fired inside of a kiln. "Glost Firing" - Glaze applied by dry-dusting a dry mixture over the surface of the clay body or by inserting salt or soda into the kiln at high temperatures to create an atmosphere rich in sodium vapor that interacts with the aluminium and silica oxides in the body to form and deposit glass. |
