Hand/Thrown Studio: Raku firing at Camden Clayworks |
David Camden is the Visual Arts Center of Richmond's 2019 Master Teacher Award recipient!
David has been a fixture in the ceramics studios at VisArts for 43 years, starting with us during our early Hand Workshop days. He studied at Goddard College in Vermont and relocated here to Richmond in 1977 to launch Camden Clayworks. He co-owns Cross Mill Gallery with Brad Camden and Jeremy Witt, which opened in 1971. At VisArts he teaches our Intermediate Wheel + Handbuilding and Mixed Media Ceramics classes. David shows has shown and sold his work at many local and national shows and galleries; you may have seen him over the years at our Craft + Design show where he is a regular. David received many nominations this year with students talking about his generous spirit, the wealth of knowledge that he shares with students and the way he creates community within his classroom, among so many other things.
There will be a ceremony to celebrate Dave this month and an interview and newsletter to be featured on the VisArts website. We will upload a link to that article as soon as it becomes available!
